Writing – curriculum information

At Smawthorne Henry Moore Academy, we recognise that writing is a complex yet vital skill for education and for success in society, that that requires careful instruction and practice.

Our intent is for children to become confident, fluent writers and for our children to be competent in both composition (handwriting and spelling) and composition to effectively communicate their thoughts and ideas.

We understand that proficient writing demands significant cognitive effort. Therefore, our curriculum will place a strong emphasis on ‘doing the basics brilliantly’ focussing on transcription, sentence construction and grammar, ensuring pupils gain the knowledge to control sentences and convey meaning.
