At Smawthorne Henry Moore Academy, our PE curriculum enables every child to develop the physical skills, confidence and enjoyment needed to lead healthy and active lives. All pupils take part in at least two hours of PE each week in a safe, inclusive environment where every child can succeed. Health and well-being are promoted throughout lessons and through dedicated whole-school events, encouraging children to understand the importance of physical and mental health as part of everyday life.
Our curriculum provides a broad range of high-quality experiences across dance, gymnastics, games, athletics and outdoor adventurous activities. The learning is carefully sequenced so that children build skills year on year, from early fundamental movement in Reception through to more complex tactics, teamwork and performance in Key Stage 2. Opportunities to join free extra-curricular clubs, enrichment activities and inter-school competitions support pupils to develop resilience, teamwork and pride in representing their school.
We are committed to ensuring that every child becomes physically literate and confident to be active both now and in the future. Our approach encourages children to take part, challenge themselves and recognise the enjoyment and benefits of physical activity. Through celebrating effort, progress and sporting success, we help pupils to develop positive attitudes towards physical activity that they can carry with them into later life.
