At Smawthorne Henry Moore Primary Academy, our intent is to nurture confident, creative, and curious musicians who understand that music is a universal language connecting people, places, and emotions.
Through the Charanga scheme, pupils experience a broad and balanced music curriculum built around the key skills of pulse, rhythm, pitch, notation, composition, and performance. Each year, children explore a wide range of genres and artists – from nursery rhymes to classical, pop, jazz, and world music – developing their ability to listen, appraise, perform, and compose with increasing control and expression.
We aim for every child to:
- Develop an appreciation of music from different cultures, times, and traditions.
- Build technical understanding and confidence as performers and composers.
- Express their individuality through creativity, teamwork, and performance opportunities.
Our musical journey ensures that, by the time pupils leave Smawthorne Henry Moore Primary Academy, they can perform with confidence, compose with imagination, and talk about music with understanding and enjoyment.
