At Smawthorne, maths introduces children to concepts, skills and mental strategies that are essential for everyday life and these are the attributes that we want our children to leave us having acquired. We want children to leave our school being numerate and able to function in the wider world of education and careers, with future success giving them opportunities in life. We do this by securing number sense, ensuring the children are fluent and efficient in calculations and develop their ability to reason and problem solve in everyday situations.
