At Smawthorne Henry Moore Academy, we believe Art and Design gives children of all abilities the opportunity to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern, different materials and processes. We aim to deliver Art and Design through high quality teaching, which stimulates creativity and imagination. This provides children with visual, tactile and sensory experiences to understand and respond to the world in their own individual way.
The staff at Smawthorne Henry Moore Academy aim to give children the opportunity to record from both first-hand experiences and their imagination, allowing them to use their own ideas and initiate their own work. Children will develop the ability and an increasing confidence to control materials, tools and techniques. We encourage the children to reflect and critically evaluate their own work and that of others in order to learn from their experiences whilst developing their own resilience.
Our Art and Design long term plan provides an opportunity for our children to study the work and techniques of a range of diverse artists and research art forms from other cultures. This provides rich and exciting learning experiences that allow children to connect knowledge, skills and concepts together. We aim to develop creativity and set challenges to engage and inspire children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art and design. The children, from EYFS to Year 6, build on prior learning and are taught the skills and techniques in mark making, drawing, painting, print making and sculpture. It will enable pupils to create artwork with a real purpose and feel pride when they are displaying their work to showcase the skills they have developed and the progress they have made.
